Lela Mal's Sci Vesta

Postby Razorwalker » September 25th, 2013, 11:07 am

OK, first off, as we all know, I am not a pvp'er. This is due to many factors, but for now lets just say that I dabble a little (One uses me for target practice, lol). I created this character from scratch with the sole purpose of making a badass SciScort toon in hopes of getting at least 1 kill against our fearless leader......However, that didn't work out too well, lol. So, instead, I refocused my attention to making the best PVE/Missions toon I could with a good setup and ship. This is the final product. With some small modifications, this toon could easily switch over to PVP without a respec.

First off, here is the Skill Tree that I have for Lela. As you may notice, it is a clone of One's SciScort. I decided to go this route because as we all know, One is damn near unstoppable, so having the same skill set to work off of is a great way to get started. Of course, this is NOT a universal skill setup, but mainly for Escorts. It does however work well with the Vesta's.

Here we have the Ship setup. I decided to go with Phasers because of the Quantum Field Focus Controller console. This console allows you to fire a Quantum Field Focus Phaser from your main Deflector Dish and deals a pretty good amount of damage. Going with Phasers on the rest of the ship, the QFFP also gets a bonus from the Phaser Relay Mk XI's that I have installed. The DBB is for when I need a quick, devastating shot at someone's unprotected flank, lol.

Since I am using Phasers, and not Polaron's (as I usually am), I equipped the Aegis set, which as we all know is a good set if one can not afford the top line fleet gear.

I have the usual consoles, Tacky, Leech, Subspace Field Modulator, and the Phaser Relays of course. I decided to use the Neut's instead of the RCS consoles because I am running a Fleet Emitter Array that increases my Threat Scale by 127.5%, so the Damage Res I get from the Neut's really helps.

I also run with the Peregrine Fighter Device with allows me to launch a wing of those little guys every 6 minutes. While they may not pack that much of a punch, they will help keep the enemy busy and reduce some of the attention being placed on you. They are expensive, ranging anywhere from 500K to 1 Mil, but I think that they are well worth it.

My Boff setup is a work in progress, but this one seems to work for me quite well.

And finally, we have the all important Doff set-up. Pay attention to your doff setup people. It really could make the difference. I learned the hard way, lol.

OK, running 2 Conn Officers, which gives me a 15 sec cool down on Attack Pattern Delta and a 40 second CD on Omega

Also running 2 Damage Control Engineers which reduces my recharge for my EPtX abilities

And, finally the Marion Doff. This is a very nice doff to have if you are using either Directed Energy Modulation & Beam Overload III

You can't hurt what you can't hit. It's all in the piloting.
;)

Does the bonus from threat control consoles scale based on your points in the threat control skill? I haven't played with it much, but that is something I have been recently wondering. The threat control skill also gives a minor increase to damage resistance, so I'm wondering if the console affects that at all.

Unless I am mistaken, this is a consumable. I thought it only came from running The Vault story mission. I used Peregrines at one time. It eventually became too much a chore to keep restocking. Among your other devices, I noticed you used Weapons Batteries. I recommend Auxiliary Batteries since all your science (the stuff that hurts) requires aux.

Feedback Pulse just says, "Don't shoot me, Bro." Assuming it's not subnuced off, everyone will just avoid shooting for a short bit. It might be a small reprieve from taking damage for you, but it also benefits your enemies who will also take the time for cooldowns and heals, unless they know how to tank their own damage. Try a gravity well or something else to keep up the pressure.

I'd love to see Suzie's Vesta build. She can shut me down, or at least keep me from being effective.

Overall, it seems a solid build. My greatest concern is that you're going a little heavy with the tactical abilities. You have escort numbers of attack patterns, but you might be lacking in the crowd control, spam control, and sciency stuff the ship does best. I hope it works well for you.

How much does the Zemok DOff tend to run? I could use that for my Scimitar.

Not sure why that's LOL-worthy, but thanks. That's within my budget for a useful DOff. I use attack patterns extensively on the Scimitar. Not sure if I can swing two of them, but once I get the 6th space slot unlocked I definitely have room for one.

The thing with the attack pattern doffs is the cooldown is not guaranteed, so you need to determine what percentage of your battle you are willing to be without the reduced cooldown. I was asking questions about this over a year ago, and someone did some math that applies to most of these chance of cooldown doffs: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showt ... 201&page=4
